There are a number of lantern workshops available to suit individuals, community groups and schools. You can make different types of lanterns from pyramids, diamonds and stars or your own unique and wildly outrageous mask or headdress to wear in the parade, there is no limit to 
your imagination. There are also fantasy flowers to carry in the parade then keep for your house or garden. Workshops skills range from easy to complex. Workshops are open to all ages but please note that children under the age of 10yrs be accompanied by an adult.

Q. Where are the workshops held?

Workshops are held at the Lantern Workshop at 81 Orion Street, Lismore at the eastern end of Orion Street, on the corner of Brewster & Orion. We can also come to you by appointment for groups and schools.

Q. How much do the workshops cost?

  • Basic lanterns from $12 - $50 inc gst
  • Masks from $5.50 inc gst
  • Headdresses from $5.50 - $25 inc gst
  • Fantasy flowers from $55 inc gst
  • Silk flowers from $120 inc gst

We also quote separately for individual concepts and design.

Q. What date will the lantern parade be held?

Saturday 22 June 2013

Q. Where is the lantern parade?

The lantern parade will travel through the Lismore Central Business District. 
The fine weather plan is to start the parade as follows: 

  • Parade participants & Official Marshalls assemble in VICTORIA STREET behind the Skatepark
  • Parade will commence at the corner of Market & Molesworth Streets for the GENERAL PUBLIC
  • Travelling along Magellan and Keen Streets
  • Through the Ceremonial Gates for the fiery finale in Oakes Oval.

This year we are excited to be able to offer GRANDSTAND SEATING, tickets available from Caddies Teas & Coffees from late April

Q. Is there a lantern parade route available?

Q. What time does it start and finish?

The parade starts at 5.30pm. 
The parade is scheduled to arrive at OAKES OVAL at approx 6.30pm.
The finale will start at 6.45pm and finish at approximately 7.45 pm.
The Ceremonial Gates will open at 4.00 pm 

Q. Is there a charge to watch the lantern parade?

The lantern parade is a free community event, however donations are 
gratefully received, as fundraising contributes significantly to the viability of the event. Identified Donation Collectors will be walking around in the parade.

Please give generously to keep this event alive. If we received a donation from every audience member this event will continue to grow and be nurtured by our volunteers and event team.

Tickets for Oakes Oval are on sale now, so you can watch the parade AND the Fiery Finale in comfort.

Q. How do I get tickets in the Grandstands?

If you want a ringside view of BOTH the the parade AND the Fiery Finale and Fireworks, the Grandstands are the place to be!

Q. What do I do about strollers and prams when we are sitting in the Grandstands?

We will provide a secure Pram Parking area at Oakes Oval

Q. Can I participate in the parade?

Yes, you can participate in the parade. Simple lanterns to decorate will be on sale ($12each) at the Kids ArtsFest outside of the Lismore Regional Gallery. This workshop space will be run from 12 - 4pm, or until we run out of lanterns. So make sure you get in early to avoid any disappointment. Once the lanterns are decorated you can join the Parade for assembly in VICTORIA  STREET behind the Skatepark at 5.00pm for the parade, which leaves at 5.30pm.

Q. Can I join the parade without a lantern?

No, you must be a registered lantern carrier. Registered parade participants receive a wristband, which provides them with access to the assembly area and reserved viewing area. Space in this area is Limited.

Q. Can I bring my own lantern?

No, sorry. You can make your own lantern as part of a LightnUp workshop and you can have your old one 
checked at the LightnUp workshop every Saturday between 27 April - 8 June 2013 between 11.00 am - 1pm. Public Liability Insurance requires that ALL lanterns must be
 approved by the Lantern Parade organisers.


Q. What should I bring to the lantern parade?

Blankets or tarps to sit on the grass in the Oval. AND remember if you have not bought a ticket for the Grandstands you will need $2 per person to sit on the grass in the Oval to watch the parade AND the fiery finale.

Q. Where is the best place to watch the parade?

Best viewing spots are anywhere along the parade route -  Molesworth, Magellan and Keen Streets. If you intend to go to the finale as well, follow the back of the parade and
 enter the finale area through the Ceremonial Gates on Magellan Street. Please remember your $2pp to donate to this event!

To avoid the crowds you should purchase a ticket for the Grandstands or Bleachers (small grandstands) before the festival and have a perfect view. Or go directly to the finale site at Oakes Oval and sit on the grass in the oval. We request that people  sit down on the grass so that as many people as possible can see - 
thank you for caring! Please bring something to sit on, a rug or tarp.

Q. Will there be food available for sale?

Yes, Lismore has excellent cafes and restaurants 
and some commercial food vendors who will be set up inthe Laneways of the Market deLight. There will also be Winter Warmers hot food & drink stalls in Oakes Oval, supplied by local Community and Service organisations as 
fundraisers for their local groups and charities.

Q. Where can I park?

There are lots of car parks in the Lismore CBD. Contact the Lismore Visitor Centre for a local car park map or visit www.visitlismore.com.au

Q. Will there be any road closures on the day?

Q. Will the parade be on if it is raining on the day?

The Lantern Parade will go ahead unless there is torrential rain. Organisers will review the weather conditions and determine whether or not the parade will proceed at approximately 2pm on 22 June 2013. If you are unsure you can contact the Lismore Visitor Information centre on  or return to this website for an update.

Q. Are there facilities for people with disabilities?

Yes, we can provide a pass to provide you with closer parking/drop off at the finale site and access to the special seating area. Please contact Lismore City Council on 02 6625 0500. There are limited spaces available so please book as early as possible and prior to Wednesday 19 June 2013. We also provide signing for the hearing impaired.
