Steven Giese: Pictures that Think

An exhibition of paintings and prints by Steven Giese. These allegorical works caution us that life is both precious and perishable. Giese is a Northern Rivers based artist who has had a devoted practice for over 25ears. His narrative, figurative images communicate ideas about the human condition, and often throw light on social and environment concerns. Giese says ‘I have a strong allegiance to art that tells a story. I find literary devices like irony, humour and exaggeration to be useful when constructing an engaging picture. Art should be clever, precise but ambiguous.’ Giese is a much loved local artist and has made an enormous contribution to the area, both as an artist and as a teacher at the Lismore TAFE.
