about us

The Lismore Lantern Parade is the feature event of not for profit organisation, LightnUp Inc, and membership is drawn from local businesses, government, schools and universities, performing and visual artists and the community of the Northern Rivers.

LightnUp runs a year round program of workshops throughout regional, rural and metropolitan Australia, including lantern making, shadow theatre, illuminated puppets, masks and costume making, and story development.

LightnUp Inc has a strong commitment to social inclusion and access to the arts, as an unfunded organisation we are proud to be able to welcome people from all walks of life, abilities and socio economic groups, offering a ‘place to be’ for many folk who do not have such opportunities to express them selves and work alongside experienced and high profile artists..

Widely recognised for our expertise in lantern making, spectacular event products and staging. We also hire out lanterns, produce specially commissioned work and develop lantern parades for communities across Australia. We also provide event themeing for conferences and events.

In 2013 we were given notice to leave our ”home” of 12 years, due to its poor condition. So began the search for a new home, finally we found and purchased a beautiful old engineering works across town.

The building had been empty for a long time, covered with graffiti, but her “bones’ are good. We are now undertaking the quite costly and time consuming process of renovating the building to meet Council requirements, and hope to move in early next year.

If you would like to help LightnUp and the Lismore Lantern Parade continue its wonderful work we would very much appreciate your financial support, please see our DONATE page.
