internship

The Lantern Parade offers a limited number of unpaid internships to individuals interested in gaining valuable practical experience across a range of areas. Working alongside leading industry professionals, interns contribute to the administration, operation, promotion and delivery of the Lismore Lantern Parade.  In doing so interns gain great insight into the operations of a highly successful event and the chance to work with caring individuals who are proud to live and work in Lismore. Internships are available to all, but preference will be given to students and recent graduates of a related field of study. The Lantern Parade will work closely with the student and the educational provider to satisfy course requirements. 

position outline

To assist with the development, coordination and marketing of the event program including liaison with suppliers, community organisations and local residents.

duties & responsibilities:

  • Assist with delivering event activities and programs
  • Assist with the development and implementation of risk management plans 
  • Assist with the communication and implementation of traffic management plans
  • Assist with communicating the event both internally and externally
  • Ensuring event procedures, plans & policies are adhered
  • Where relevant, assist with design and construction of illuminated sculptures, props and costumes
  • Undertake general administrative duties 
  • Attend to enquiries from internal and external customers in a prompt, professional and courteous manner 
  • Project a professional public image by being courteous and dealing effectively with the public in relation to the event 
  • Provide support to supervisor as directed.

selection criteria

  • Tertiary study within the schools of Tourism, Events, Marketing, Communications, Visual Arts, Multi Media or Performance Studies
  • Experience in the operation of the Microsoft office suite and relevant technology 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate and consult through effective written and verbal communication 
  • Ability to develop practical solutions to daily work issues

In addition to addressing the above selection criteria, applicants will need to provide personal details including relevant educational and work experience. Students are also asked to provide an overview of why they would like to be considered for this position with the Lantern Parade.

The names and contacts of at least two (2) professional referees should be supplied. The Lantern Parade organisers will not contact these referees until the permission of the applicant to proceed has been provided.
