The launch of Roland Harvey’s Postcard Show and an all round day of fun for kids starts Saturday 12 May 2012, 11.00am.
Roland Harvey is a children’s book illustrator. His popular picture book, At the Beach: Postcards from Crabby Spit, uses individual postcards to tell the tale of one family’s adventures during a quintessential Australian beach family holiday. The exhibition includes original drawings and preparation sketches from At the Beach: Postcard’s from Crabby Spit, In the Bush: our holiday at Wombat Flat, In the City: our scrap book of souvenirs, The Little Dragon (Mem Fox), To the Top End: our trip across Australia.

1972 was a great time young in Australia with international bands coming and adding to a culture of freedom and change. Ted and his camera were there. Ted Harvey found himself right in the front row at concerts by international rock acts, such as Cat Stevens, Pink Floyd and Elton John, which were touring Australia and transforming music culture, nationally and internationally. He zoomed in and captured the very essence of these events and the time, capturing the people who coloured the culture of the 1970s.

An exhibition of paintings and prints by Steven Giese. These allegorical works caution us that life is both precious and perishable. Giese is a Northern Rivers based artist who has had a devoted practice for over 25ears. His narrative, figurative images communicate ideas about the human condition, and often throw light on social and environment concerns. Giese says ‘I have a strong allegiance to art that tells a story. I find literary devices like irony, humour and exaggeration to be useful when constructing an engaging picture. Art should be clever, precise but ambiguous.’ Giese is a much loved local artist and has made an enormous contribution to the area, both as an artist and as a teacher at the Lismore TAFE.
